Machiel Bouwmans successfully defended his PhD dissertation on January 12th for a jury of opponents consisting of Professors M.A.J.S. van Boekel (Wageningen University), M.L.L. Volman (University of Amsterdam), P.G.C. van den Bossche (Maastricht University and University of Antwerp) and T.V. Bondarouk (University of Twente). Co-promotors were Dr. Piety Runhaar and Dr. Renate Wesselink. Professor A. Bregt served as Deputy Rector Magnificus and chair.The dissertation is about human resource management in vocational education, which is not studied very much, In practice, human resource management is for long neglected in colleges for vocational education, although it is an essential factor which directly influences the quality of education. Team-oriented human resource management is even more scarce, and this dissertation justly calls for more attention for this. Machiel has been very productive, and published four articles before his defence, which is rather unique. The articles are:
