About the header picture. View on old Borne (2007) with the Museum farm and the Old Church of Borne (with the largest tower of the two), of which the ship was built during the first half of the XVth century. Amsterdam was still a village of 3,000 inhibitants at that time. Churches and towers were the first brick constructions. Because of risk of fires – large parts of Amsterdam were devastated because of fires in 1421 en 1452 – wooden houses were gradually replaced by brick houses.
